Aaron and his sons are made answerable for whatever goes wrong at the sanctuary, and the Levites are assigned to them as a working staff. Nobody else may come near it. Then the chapter turns to money. The priests are given no land at all and are paid in food instead: the offerings, the first oil and wine and grain, the firstborn of every womb, and anything devoted. The Levites receive a tenth of everything in Israel as wages, and owe a tenth of that straight back.
