The Fire That Never Goes Out

The audience changes here. Chapters 1 to 5 tell a worshipper what to bring; from this point the instructions are for the priests — what to handle, what to wear, what to eat and where. The altar fire is to burn continually, said twice in two verses, and the method given is a duty roster. Much of the rest is income: the priests have no land, so what they receive from the offerings is what they live on.
