Jacob heads home and hears that Esau is coming with four hundred men. He divides his family, prays one of the most honest prayers in Genesis, and sends a large gift ahead. That night, alone at the ford of Jabbok, a man wrestles him until daybreak, cannot prevail, and touches his hip. Jacob will not let go without a blessing. He is given a new name — Israel — and calls the place Peniel: I have seen God face to face.
