Egypt’s magicians duplicate the frogs, then try the third sign and cannot — and it is they, not Pharaoh, who say what is happening: this is the finger of God. Two of the three creatures are genuinely unidentifiable: kinnim occurs nowhere else and the lexicons call it dubious, and arov just means a swarm, with every translation supplying an animal the Hebrew never names.
