The Seventh Year

Courts, then land, then a calendar. The judicial rules cut in unexpected directions — do not favour a poor man in his lawsuit either, and if you meet your enemy’s ox wandering, bring it back to him. Then the seventh year, in which fields are let drop and the volunteer crop assigned to the poor. And at the end, one sentence nobody has explained: do not boil a kid in its mother’s milk. The confident explanation rested on a tablet reading that was withdrawn.
